Goodbye letter to supermarket bread

Goodbye letter to supermarket bread

I am grateful. All these years, I relied on you for midnight snacks, road trip sandwiches, and crappy breakfasts. I thank you, you were plenty available; Aisles and aisles, rows and rows, brands, and brands. From convenience stores to gas stations. But I didn’t know better. Every time I bit, you were silent. You were pail, bland, and just tasted like whatever I put on you.

You were like a cousin that you don’t particularly like but cannot help having every year for Christmas because you are related to him. Again, you were pail, dude. You are full of ingredients that nobody can understand or even pronounce. You were way too complicated, and you have given Bread a bad name.

In the meantime, we grew apart. With time, I felt uncomfortable being around you. I wasn’t satisfied, something was missing, and I think it is not you; it’s me.

That’s when I met someone. Well, a whole kind of someones. Artisan Breads sing when I bite. They are vibrant, crispy, full of life, tan, and simple – Very simple; Just four ingredients. All-natural and unpretentious by the way.

They come from organic flours made from ancient grains, but they are hip, clean, and not treated with pesticides; just how nature intended.

They are raw, pure, and little nutty. Just like people, they come in all sizes and shapes, and While supermarket bread looks all the same to me, Artisan Breads feel close to my heart. I also noticed that they don’t upset my tummy.

With you, I always had to put something between us, with them, it is just about us. We have a more organic relationship. We need nothing when we are together. Finally, I am complete.

Now, I cannot go back. No more tasteless wannabe sandwiches, un-nutritious breakfast or soggy toasts. For me, now it is all about the Crust, the Crumb, the Nutritional Value, and Favor. Lots of flavors.

Bye, bye supermarket bread.
